Player of the Week: Week 5 Nominees (Su13)

Written by - Posted 2013-09-11 10:26 in POTW

We’re into the home stretch of the season, and we still have almost every team still vying for a playoff spot. Every game will count coming down as all 4 divisions have tight races for the top spot. We had one automatic nomination this week, as Alex Filides threw a perfect game against the Sex Panthers in a must win for them. TO THE NOMINATIONS!

Alex Filides (14 nominations, 2 wins)
Gas House Gorillas struggled to find players for this week, ending up grabbing an ump to play their two games. They lost the first one via pitcher ejection (even though they were up by 2 in extras), then Alex threw a perfect game against Sex Panthers. Of the 12 batters Alex faced — he struck out 10 of them! Not to mention, Alex batted .500 with 2 RBIs and 1 homerun.

Zach Carter (2 nominations, 2 wins)
Starting the season up and down, Zach has leveled out to be a consistent hitter the past 2 weeks. This week, Zach had 3 games — all must wins. While they picked up only 2 of the 3, Zach batted his way to an OPS of 1.500, hit .500 with a homerun, 2 doubles, and 2 RBIs. Zach also pitched in all 3 games for the Master Batters — keeping the Sex Panthers and Circle Jerks at bay for wins (we won’t mention the Twits game here).

Dan Lockbaum (First nomination)
The DC Twits found themselves in 2 must win situations this week facing Master Batters and Moose Knuckles — Dan answered their call. Dan had an OPS of 1.667, an average of .444, including 2 homeruns and 6 RBI. One of Dan’s homeruns was a walk off against Moose Knuckles — seen HERE.

Michael Burns (5 nominations, 0 wins)
Burns had himself a day at the plate for Suns Out Guns Out. Facing Thaman in the first game, Burns tried to carry the team, but came up short — and decided to take it out on 7th Linning Stretch. On the day, Burns had an OPS of 2.200, batted .700, hit 2 homeruns, and batted in 4. Not too shabby.

Joe Thaman (22 nominations, 4 wins)
Ol’ faithful. There were murmors that MAYBE Joe was slowing down, taking some time off — then he came back, and all was right in the Wiffleball world again. This week Joe had an OPS of 1.583, hit .500 with 2 homeruns and 5 RBIs. Joe also pitched well against Garbage Plates and Suns Out — 2 wins, a 1.14 ERA, and 14 strikeouts.

The public vote counts for 50% of the overall total, and the league managers vote counts for the remaining 50%.
