Player of the Week (Su09): Week 6 Nominees

Written by - Posted 2009-09-23 02:28 in POTW

Despite the fact that some players have issued statements (later retracted) after failing to win the award that the “POTW is a joke”, we’re back this week with three nominees. Offense finally returned and the winds were calm, thankfully. We didn’t want to be forced to nominate a guy who wore a glove in the field or anything batshit crazy like that.

  • Nicholas DiCrosta (Canvassers): DiCrosta hit three dingers and drove in ten runs as the Canvassers went 2-0 for the weekend and improved to 12-0 on the season. He tossed in three doubles for good measure, slugging 1.333. He also had a good day on the mound, not giving up an earned run in nine innings of work and striking out five.
  • Craig Mann (Flea Bitten Varmits): Mann gets his second nomination in a row after just deciding to hit the crap out of the wiffleball this weekend. He launched five home runs, four of them in consecutive plate appearances. He was one short of tying the single game record of six. He drove in eight runs and slugged 1.909. His timing could have been better, as it only helped the Varmits to a 1-1 weekend but he did put them directly in the middle of a five way tie for the final two playoff spots.
  • Andrew Martin (Alcoholics Anonymous): The hole Martin had dug for himself the first five weeks of the season was so deep he needed a ladder to get out of it. Something jarred him to life during Week 6 though, and fortunately for the Alcoholics their 2-0 weekend has kept them in the playoff picture. He went 11 for 17, with four singles, three doubles, and four home runs, slugging 1.529 and driving in 10 runs. He raised his batting average from .095 to .254 and can no longer be called that asshole who can kinda pitch but can’t hit. Now, he’s that asshole that can kinda pitch and every once in a while will pull off an amazing hitting performance.
