POTW

Player of the Week Award

The Player of the Week Award was established in the Spring 2006 Season to reward the player who had the most outstanding performance that week. The winner is presented a Wiffleball Keychain. The keychain is no longer produced. After buying all available on ebay, the league owns enough to present the award until 2014

The award has always been voted on by the league after players were nominated either through an automatic formula, or by the Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner. The votes were originally cast by emailing the Commissioner. Voting was limited to players in the league. In Week 6 of the 2007 Spring Season, the voting was moved to the website and all players, fans, media, and players families could vote.

Starting with the Spring 2012 Season, the public vote was mixed with a vote of the managers of the league teams to determine the winner. The public vote and the managers vote each count for 50% of the final tally.

POTW: Week 2 – Twice as Nice

Written by - Posted 2007-05-04 21:08 in POTW

Tony Cani of the Canvassers won his second player of the week award this week in the largest turnout of POTW votes in league history. Cani has been nominated three times.

The win, which was by one vote, came with 15 players participating, more twice the previous record amount of votes cast.

Once again, veteran player Stephen Zigmund, Cani’s teammate on the Canvassers and the current leader in all three batting triple crown categories ( Leaders ), was denied the POTW honor. Also losing out to Cani was first time nominee, and the first ever female player to be nominated, Mindie Reule of the Borg.

PWL press nudnick Coby Rudolph, a teammate of Reule’s who didn’t vote, said, “I just don’t think the PWL is ready for a female player of the week. We just had the first non-white player of the week last week. If we keep going like this, the terrorists will win.”

Tony accepts his second POTW award from Commissioner Gallaway after week 3 action.
