Stephen Zigmund was named Player of the Week for the first week of play during the Spring 2009 Season.
This is Zigmund’s seventh keychain, but his first win in a year, with Spring 2008 Week 1 his last.
The fewest number of votes were cast in this race since online voting began in 2007. Nominees were posted on Friday prior to the This Week in Wiffleball (TWIF) weekly email with a deadline of 10 PM Saturday night.
In addition to the abbreviated voting time, there were complaints from league members about the nominees, or rather, who didn’t get nominated. The nominees were all previous multiple winners and league veterans. However, with a huge number of rookies this season, the new comers are looking to make their mark quickly.
Rookie pitcher for the Wackazoids Brenna Kaminski appeared in all three of the pitching league leaders her first week in the show, but didn’t get a nomination. In a run rule pouding the Blandsford Barnburners Jack Shannon and Jim Shannon stood out at the plate, and hurler Jacob Tomko tossed what might be a perfect game, all without nomination.
